The Yankee’s successfully took an intended insult and created something great when they adapted to the title “Baseball’s Evil Empire”. When Red Sox CEO Larry Lucchino threw the phrase at the team in 2002, he probably did not predict that it would help them win a lawsuit.
With the help of the Major League Baseball industry, a corporation was brought to its’ knees after trying to coin the phrase themselves and sell merchandise with it. T-shirts, hats, pants, and jackets with the term printed as a logo were set to hit stores but were shut down when Judges agreed “The record shows that there is only one evil empire in baseball and it is the New York Yankees”.
Evil Enterprises Inc. is a website that has been trying to sell baseball gear under use of the term “Baseball’s Evil Empire” and Judges agreed this was a clear violation of trademark rights. Now, the site cannot even be accessed and a malware warning flashes on your computer if you try. Apparently, the Yankee’s are the rightful villains.--
